What you need to know when you buy flowers

Flowers are a romantic addition to any wedding. They bring beauty and elegance to a ceremony and to any reception.

Here are some tips on how to choose flowers to compliment your wedding and save money on flower arrangements:
  • Wedding flowers should be ordered 4-5 month before the wedding.
  • Visit at least 2 or 3 different floral shops.
  • Ask for estimates and see photographs of the florist’s past work.
  • Check bridal magazines for flower arrangement ideas, bring pictures of the arrangements you liked.
  • Bring a picture of your bridal gown and samples of the cloth of your attendants' outfits, if possible. (It will help to choose what type, style and size of bouquet to match the outfits.)
  • Be very specific about your wishes on the particular flowers you want, the type of holder you desire, and the size of the bouquet.
  • Your flowers should suit your style and the theme of the wedding.
  • Buy flowers that are in season, avoid choosing exotic flowers.
  • Your bride’s maids bouquets should match their outfits and your bouquet
  • The men in the wedding party should wear boutonnieres on the left lapel.
  • Instead of bouquets you might choose to carry a single flower beautifully decorated with a ribbon.
  • Your centerpieces should not be very large; otherwise your guest won't be able to see from across the table.
  • Ask your florists if you may decorate the reception hall with the same flower arrangements you used for the ceremony

Make sure you have a written contract of everything you pay for, it should specify what flowers you getting and how they are going to be used as well correct date and time of the event.

Remember, no verbal agreements.

Ask if there are any charges for delivery or setting up on your wedding day or any other hidden fees.
