If you’re tall and lean, consider yourself lucky. With a slender shape you can wear almost any style. The jacket that would best on you is probably a double-breasted one. The shoulders of the jacket should only be slightly padded and the trousers should be full with a higher rise.

If you are tall and heavily built, not everything will make you look great. The shawl collar tux would be perfect for you. The jacket should be single-breasted, with  just one button, and the trousers should be slightly wider if your legs are large or if you have muscular thighs. Do not wear a bow tie, choose a tie that is in proportion with your neck and face. Try to avoid extra frills and bulk.

If you are short and broad, the shawl collar tux is for you, single breasted, with one button around the belt line, to make your torso look leaner and longer. Your jacket should have shoulder padding and your trousers should be pleated. Do not wear wing-tip collars, and do not wear a small tie if your have larger than average face or neck. If you are a bit, heavy, try on a vest over the cummerbund.

If you are short and thin, consider a single-breasted jacket, with just one button closer to the belt, to lengthen your body. If you want to look bulkier, try a notched or peak lapel or you can create the same effect with a jacket that is double-breasted. The trousers should be pleated with reverse double pleats. Make sure the leg of your trousers breaks just above the shoes, angling just a bit towards the back. Smaller bow ties work well with frame, and vests are elegant in an minimalist pattern.

One last thing: if you do not have a lot of choices, or if you prefer a very traditional look, choose a shawl or a collar jacket. It’s the most classic and you can’t go wrong that way. Black tuxes are the most slimming. If you are trying to appear slimmer, vests work better than cummerbunds.
